Return to Oz Slippers

I had no desire to take on the expense of having base shoes custom made for Return to Oz style shoes, but a shoe company that specializes in vintage reproduction footwear offered a base shoe that was perfect for the purpose of recreating the slippers from 1985. This style shoe sold out a number of years ago and as far as I know the company has no plans to issue them again. Thankfully I snapped up their last size 6 pair to create another pair of these for myself... someday.

These were relatively simple to make. The base shoes were simply painted inside and out with leather paint, and 6mm lochrose glass jewels were adhered to the shoes using E6000. The bows were made using Petersham ribbon (not grosgrain) that was formed to the shape and then accented with a large acrylic jewel and 2 small glass stones. I created red velvet insoles for the shoes as well.
