My aged style slippers are the culmination of years of research, trial, and error. My goal was to be able to make the sequins appear as though they could be 85 year old gelatin sequins, using only modern materials. In 2022, I finally accomplished it.

The base sequins themselves are custom made in a color only available to me. They are manufactured to be similar to how antique sequins were made - a clear disc (these days that's plastic, but they used to be made of gelatin), electroplated with silver (now aluminum), and dyed red. My manufacturer pre-ages these sequins for me, but they are still too metallic for my liking when I receive them. To remedy this, the sequins go through a four part aging process of my own creation, resulting in sequins that appear both metallic and translucent depending on how the light is hitting them.
